FAQ - Surfing

Find the most frequently asked questions on our surf lessons below:

All of our surf lessons take place at Watergate Bay beach - a minute drive from our HQ in Newquay Bay Resort and a 10 minute drive from Newquay town center.

Should circumstances result in the lesson taking place at another location, the team will contact you directly with plenty of notice.

You should aim to be at our surf school 30 minutes before your lesson starts ready to put on a wetsuit. Take into account traffic and parking during weekends, school holidays, and sunny days.

Yes!

We are located on The Green opposite Wax Beach Bar right next to the Council Car Park (look into Just Park Wallet on how to save money on your parking during your holiday).

Failing this there is parking opposite Watergate Bay Hotel and on the southern cliff overlooking the bay.

We’d recommend arriving in your swimming cozzie and slip-on footwear ready to change into a wetsuit.

Sun cream, water, towels, a change of clothes, and change in £1 coins for the showers if needed.

For group lessons, our minimum age is 8 years old unsupervised.

Children younger than 8 can attend a group lesson BUT ONLY IF they are supervised by an adult not involved in the lesson at all times.

They can also be booked onto their own Private Surf Lesson.

Sadly we don’t have the facilities at this time to hold onto anything more than your car keys. All other valuables and belongings should be locked in your car during the lesson.

We LOVE surfing in the rain – is there a better activity out there on a wet day?

Our lessons go ahead unless the beach has been red flagged by the lifeguards on duty or we deem it unsafe. In this rare occurrence, lessons are either rearranged or refunded.

All our surf lessons are 2 hours long EXCEPT our Kids-Only Lesson, which runs for
1.5-hours.

Whilst we do supply all necessary equipment for a lesson you are welcome to bring your own wetsuit if you wish. We may however recommend one of ours depending on the time of year and thickness of your suit.

When it comes to your own board, please talk to the team beforehand.

Most surf schools operate a 8:1 ratio of students to coaches. To us, if we're serious about keeping you safe and providing you with an unrivalled surfing experience then this is too high.

Keeping our classes to a maximum of 6 means more 1-on-1 time with your coach and a better experience for everyone.

Your booking can then be rescheduled at no extra cost or a full refund given. We will notify participants of any changes via email or phone, so please ensure that your contact information is up to date when booking.

We love dogs but we know not everybody does.

Porth doesn't allow our furry friends on the beach at certain times of the year but we can't guarantee there won't be the odd pooch around.

We also ask you not to bring your dogs to the yoga session.

There is pay-and-display parking available but subject to availability.

To avoid disappointment we recommend walking, cycling, or even car-sharing to get to us.
